Clara Rose & Friends: A Celebration of Local Women in Music in The Garage Theatre

Clara Rose curates an evening of music in The Garage Theatre, Monaghan to celebrate International Women’s Day 2020. Homegrown local artists Annie June Callaghan and Bronagh McCabe will join forces with Clara Rose for an evening of their songs and stories. Each artist brings their unique gifts to the show, resulting in a combination of stunning vocals, rock, soulful blues, power punk, dark roots and contemporary folk. This promises to be a night to remember, celebrating Women in Music in Monaghan.

This concert is also part of Clara Rose’s 2020 live album recording project where a series of her shows will be recorded to create a live album. Her set at this concert will also be filmed as part of the project. Very exciting times!

“The Clara Rose Revue” Live Album Recording Shows

2020 see’s Clara Rose embarking on a live album recording project with her band, The Clara Rose Band. The recording will take place over series of shows in different types of venues to capture different vibes, sounds and music…

The first of these is the gorgeous Arthur’s Jazz & Blues Club on Thomas St., Dublin 1. This is on Friday 24th January. Tickets are €10 and can be bought on the door. If people come along they will be part of the live recording and experience the live album set played by:

Clara Rose – vocals, guitar

Elizabeth Monahan – vocals

Darragh Slacke – Electric guitar

Tony McManus – Bass

Gavin Taylor – Drums

It was a dream come true to sing on the Acoustic Stage at Glastonbury, UK with Ladies in the Blues http://www.ladiesintheblues.com .

Our set went down a storm and we had a rockin’ time!

It’s a sell out!

The Clara Rose Band had the recent honour of launching The Danny Boy Jazz and Blues Festival, Limavady, Co Derry in the beautiful Roe Valley Arts and Cultural Centre.

Clara’s Mam Liz Monahan was special guest on the night and the audience were treated to a few solo numbers from Liz as well as some gorgeous harmonies in Clara’s original songs.

Songwriter, guitarist and performer Darragh Slacke also performed a country-fied version of the Leonard Cohen classic, ‘Tower of Song’.

The band received a warm reception and a number of standing ovations throughout the show! Check back here for some live tracks of the show…

Clara Rose & Mam Liz on TG4

In March 2019 Clara Rose and her Mam Liz Monahan (top picture above) performed their version of Dolly Parton classic, ‘Jolene’ on TG4 Show, “Realta agus Gaolta”. The show was presented by the lovely Sile Seoige (bottom picture). It was a great experience to have together and they even got to show off their Irish! Well, to be honest, Liz really showed Clara up on that front… 😉

THATS A WRAP!

If you’re wondering why things have been a little quiet on the Clara Rose front these days it’s because I’ve been on a nationwide tour with these gifted women: Grainne Hunt, Jhil Quinn and Emma Nicolai. AKA: “Ladies in the Blues”

We had a successful run of shows in some of Ireland’s beautiful theatre spaces including, ‘Theatre Royal’ (Waterford), ‘Firkin Crane’ (Cork Jazz Festival), Watergate (Kilkenny) and Glor (Ennis). It was so much fun singing with my sistas of blues! Between an appearance on RTE news.. a few ladders in a few tights… James Delaney on a grand piano (in Glor) and singing our heart out at a late night trad session in Ennis.

It was not without it’s dramas and tales but the highlight is always being on stage with these fine musicians, paying tribute to the ladies of the blues in the best way we know how. X

New Album Launched in ‘The Market House’ (Monaghan)

Clara Rose had her Monaghan Album Launch in Monaghan’s beautiful heritage arts centre, ‘The Market House’ on Saturday 24th February. The sold out show was a great night with performances from The Clara Rose Band and special guest appearance from, ‘The Monahan Family’ (my wonderful parents Alan & Liz Monahan) fresh from their mini-tour of Northern Italy in January 2018!

We had a gorgeous wine & drinks reception in the surrounds of The Market House. Sound on the night was by the legendary Ronnie O’ Flynn and the concert was M.C’s by Clara’s uncle Pat Deery.

‘The Offering’ Officially Launched

My new album, ‘The Offering’ was officially launched in February 2018 with two sell-out launch shows in Dublin and Monaghan. Both shows featured performances from The Clara Rose Band and some special guests. Here’s a small snapshot of the Dublin show:.

Clara Rose Album Launch, The Underground, Dublin
Saturday 17th February 2018

My Dublin album launch took place in one of Dublin’s newest venues, The Underground, Dublin. I chose this venue because it’s intimate, funky, great vibe with top drawer sound and the Guinness is good. I wasn’t disappointed. It was all that for the launch and much more! The proprietor Abner Brown treats all musicians so well and he has a great love of music himself. A music venue that’s ALL ABOUT THE MUSIC. What more could you want?

All in all the night was exactly how I planned: Rock n’ roll.. hot… sweaty… full of great people and good vibes.

M.C on the night was my album Producer and Radio Nova DJ Gavin Glass. Greeting the audience with “Hello you beautiful dreamers” and saying a few lines about recording the album in Orphan Recording he got the night kicked off in style!

Opening the show we had the musical stylings of up and coming bluesman Colm Skwirbat (Performing ‘Too Much Alcohol’ live). His rare vintage guitars and cigar-box guitars and old style blues were real treat for the audience!

The Clara Rose Band took to the stage at 9pm and treated the packed house to a full on 2 hour show! It was non-stop rock and roll. We performed the album, ‘The Offering’ in it’s entirety as well as some of my back catalogue and a sprinkling of blues classics such as, the epic ‘I’d Rather Go Blind’ (Etta James) and a romping ‘Let the Good Times Roll’ (B. B King).

What made the night even more memorable for me was that we were joined by three very special guest vocalists, Claire McLaughlin and Paula Higgins and my wonderful mother Elizabeth Monahan! Their sublime vocals brought the sound to a whole new level and it was one of the pleasures of my life sharing the stage with these three women on this night of nights.

All that was left on that stage at the end was blood, sweat and one or two tears… It was such a pleasure to perform for such a great crowd and I loved EVERY single moment of it.
