New trailer coming soon!
“Baker and Rose”
Don Baker… Renowned bluesman, songwriter, guitarist and harmonica player has joined forces with emerging unique vocalist & songwriter, Clara Rose to create an unforgettable show featuring their own music and collaborations from their new album, “Baker Rose”.
The man affectionately known as ‘The Don’ became a professional musician in 1973. His expressive skills on the harmonica have drawn accolades from artists as varied as Bono and Christy Moore. His recent role in popular Irish soap ‘Fair City’ has cemented Baker into a household name.
Clara Rose… has been writing and performing her original music for 10 years. She has performed as a solo artist across Ireland, Europe and the U.S.A. Her acclaimed solo releases lead her to feature as an artist on Don’s, ‘My Songs, My Friends’ (2013).
“Baker Rose embrace an eclectic mix of folk, rock, country and jazz, neither Don nor Clara strays far from their blues roots …when they share vocals they can take a song to places it’s never been before” (Jackie Hayden, Hotpress Magazine)
They present their new collaborative album of original blues and home-grown country roots which promises to be a gorgeous exponent of the genres in this collaboration of ‘kindred spirits’.

Baker Rose are busy cooking something special for you all and it will be out as SOOOOOOOON as we possibly can finish up these loose ends!
The recording process is fascinating and I’m enjoying every moment working with Mr. Baker. He is such a professional and I learn so much from him – he is a gifted musician, songwriter and a very special guy too – I’m loving this collaboration so much!
We have around 3 tracks left to finish and then we should be ready to roll – we have so much material that the problem is deciding what tracks to put on the album!
So as they say: WATCH THIS SPACE!
Here are some shots of the recording process in the gorgeous Jealoustown Studios:
Summer 2015 has come and gone: and what a summer it was!
May and June saw the Baker/Rose tour in full flight with shows in some of Ireland’s most beautiful arts centres. We traveled the length and breadth of Ireland in Don’s trusty Volkswagen Estate and discussed life… love… metaphysics… and MUSIC. The venues that hosted us were: Wexford Arts Centre, Balor Arts Centre, Sirius Arts Centre, Wesport Arts Centre. We were treated so well by all the venue managers, staff, sound engineers in these venues and they are truly wonderful supporters of the arts in Ireland. Support your local arts centre!
I ticked off a few boxes of ‘dreams’ this summer also with performances in London and in the famous ‘Music Triangle’ in the U.S.A…’The Blues Kitchen, Camden run a weekly Blues Jam on Sunday evenings – you sign up and then get to perform with their sizzling house band! I got up and jammed with them and had a ball – we churned out standards ‘Honky Tonk Woman’ and ‘Johnny B. Goode’ and had the whole bar rockin’ – such fun!
With London under my belt it was time to tackle the Everest of Blues: New Orleans – Memphis – Nashville. This was my pilgrimage! In New Orleans I met the The Danny Alexander Blues Band and ended up jamming with them at their weekly Blues Jam. I was honoured to play with these people – I got to sing some of my favourites with this cookin’ band, “I’d Rather Go Blind’, ‘Hard to Handle’ and ‘Love Me Like a Man’. I know it’s a cliche but it was actually a dream come true… and here’s proof… check out my Cheshire Cat grin in this pic! :
We trundled up through the state of Mississipi, whizzing by the iconic cotton fields, the never-ending churches… you could touch the moisture in the air and you could hear the music of the past… The Mississipi Blues Trail… Highway 51… I was home! We stopped off in the famous Clarksdale – did Robert Johnson REALLY sell his soul to the devil? Here? Well, it’s as good a place as any… we got caught in a rainstorm while trying to leave Morgan Freeman’s Blues Club so I made my mark on those walls (they gave me a pen!):
I danced my way through Memphis and the only singing done was as I stood in the queues of tourists visiting hallowed sites such as Elvis’ ‘Graceland’ and sang into THAT famous microphone at ‘Sun Studios’…
Myself and Don have been on the road now for a few weeks and we are having a ball!
‘The High Tide Club’ in Castletownbere on 14th March was probably the single-most furthest place I’ve ever driven for a gig but it was also the single-most beautiful place for a gig. Georgina treated us so well and it was brilliant to play surrounded by the pleasing aesthetics of Sarah Walker’s art in her gallery. It was a great start to our tour!
Next stop was the ‘Mermaid Arts Centre’ in Bray on 28th March. The sound at this gig was by Eoin and I have to say this is what stood out for me.. it was a real pleasure to sing and play here – especially with the sublime Kevin Malone on drums. I’ve included a video of us performing ‘Hesitation Blues’ on the night – this gives a flavour of ‘the craic’ on the night in question! https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=zDpXwmfO5hc
The 3rd gig was in The Kenyon Bar in Nenagh on 2nd April. This is one of those ‘hidden gems’ of venues we have dotted around Ireland. Our host/soundman on the night was Brendan – a big fan of Don and the blues. The audience here were enraptured for the night and treated to an amazing ‘Dons Train’ from the man himself:
We finished the night off in true Rock and Roll style with a cuppa tea!
Next stop is The Civic Theatre in Tallaght next Friday 10th April – tickets can be bought from here: http://www.civictheatre.ie/whats-on/don-baker/

Looking forward to sharing more memories… both of life on the road and musical as the Baker Rose tour continues!
2015 will be a big year for Clara Rose & Don Baker as they embark on recording an album together. They are currently working in the studio finishing a collaborative album that is due for release later in the year. The album is a mixture of original songs by Don Baker and Clara Rose – it is shaping up nicely!
From March onwards they will tour the album in various venues nationwide – see the ‘gig listings‘ for details. Their show promises to be an intimate exponent of their songwriting styles and musical rapport.
See Clara Rose & Don Baker in action – their latest music video where Clara performs Don’s powerful song “Never Let You Down”.
September 2014 has and is a great month for Clara Rose inc…
I kicked things off with 2 stomper gigs at the Harvest Time Blues in Monaghan. This was with the full band and we had a rockin’ weekend rolling around Monaghan, hearing some amazing artists and rocking out at our own gigs. What a brilliant festival and melting pot of all kinds of blues and all in the town of Monaghan! Long may it continue 🙂
My first appearance in Dublin’s famous venue The Olympia is coming up this Sunday 21st September. I’ll be performing with The Don Baker Band at a fundraiser for Gaza through Amnesty International. On the ‘Gig for Gaza‘ bill are a host of other great acts; Paul Bray, The Stunning, Francis Black, Paddy Casey and Big September. Tickets are available through Ticketmaster.
I’m flying to Bella Italia next weekend to perform in Tricesimo (1 hour north of Venice) at the Madame Guitar festival. I’m really looking forward to this festival and soaking up the last of the autumn sun (and red wine!!) in Italy.
October is going to be good too with more performances lined up with The Don Baker Band at the renowned Guinness Cork Jazz Festival!
So it’s all go for Clara Rose… and I couldn’t have it any other way!
An exciting month as I launch my brand new, LIVE RECORDING of 4 tracks! The E.P is titled “Queen of the Late Night Radio”.
I recorded the E.P in The Meadows Studios with my 7 piece band and special guests, Cathy McEvoy on Fiddle and Don Baker on harmonica. We did the recording “old school” and live – the band are cookin’ and I hope people will enjoy the ‘live’ sound! The session was engineered by Gavin Ralston.
There will be some “pre sales” at my gig in The Cafe Sessions, Chapter One Cafe, Cavan on Thursday 22nd May.
The big launch night is happening on 29th May in The Grand Social at 8pm. There are 4 acts in total on the night who are all part of Silverwood Music (http://silverwoodmusiclabel.com/new/?page_id=103)

This August has been a whirlwind for me as a wee blues woman. I have been working with Don Baker (www.donbaker.ie) for 2 years now – playing shows and recording vocals for his new album “My Songs, My Friends” due for release on 20th September. Last Wednesday I went down to David Cantwells’ photography studio (www.davidcantwellphotography.com) for a photoshoot – promo shots for Don’s album. What a fun evening! Involved in the shoot were Brian Kennedy, Paddy Casey & Mik Pyro aswell as Don and myself. With my hair done and glad rags on I had a great evening of hair flicking, pouting and laughs! The results can be seen here: www.donbaker.ie AND www.facebook.com/donbakerband
This weekend (23rd – 25th August) sees me making my London Debut. I have 2 gigs…
Fri 23rd in ‘The Constitution Pub’ 42 St. Pancras Way, Camden. Doors at 7.15pm.(www.bugbearbookings.com/bugbear-elsewhere)
Sat 24th in ‘Ain’t Nothin But’ (Blues Bar) 20 Kingly Street, Soho – Special Guest @ Niall Kelly’s Blues Jam from 4-8pm. (www.aintnothinbut.co.uk)
There are no words to describe my excitement! I can’t wait to meet new people, hear new great music and get a real feel for the ‘London scene’. The kitchen table in my wee cottage is covered in set lists, guitar strings, airline ticket print offs and “to do lists”… you could cut the anticipation with a kitchen knife.
Tonight I will also be making my English Radio Debut as I will be played on FromFM (www.frome.fm/programmes/music/blues-train/) by Dave Watkins on his acclaimed blues show “The Blues Train” from 8-9pm. Listen in on this link: www.frome.fm
So lets journey on another while and keep truckin’… maybe we will find some answers further on down the trail…
Over and out!
